A TRADITIONAL CHINESE MARTIAL
ARTS SCHOOL
COMMITTED TO MAKING THE WORLD
A BETTER PLACE TO HAND DOWN TO OUR CHILDREN.
Mark Searle – Musician in the Royal Marines
“I have spent
the last 28 years as a military musician having joined the Royal Marines at
16 and I find that the philosophy of Tai Chi particularly relates to my lifestyle.
The combination of soldier and musician is difficult for many people to
understand as stereotypes often spring to mind, but I find it relates
perfectly to the Yin/yang, martial/art, balancing philosophy of Tai Chi.
Military style training gets you very fit but in a hard, external way.
I find Tai Chi is
extremely similar to learning a musical instrument but the 'instrument'
being your body. You learn to listen to your body and your breathing; it
takes discipline and practice, mental and physical coordination and exercises the mind as well as the
body. Although I considered myself fairly fit, Tai Chi has vastly improved
my balance, flexibility, mobility, energy, calmness, stability, and
awareness of my movements and I find myself carrying this over into all
other areas of my life. I am learning to 'tune in', relax, and listen to my
body and how I use it. Through Tai Chi I have learned not only a lot about myself but it changes your view of the world and how you
relate to it. It makes you a stronger, healthier, more 'grounded' and well
balanced person. After these years of training I feel I am only just
beginning to understand the internal martial arts. But I'm looking forward
to the rest of the journey!”
